DSL How It Works

Both are great services.
I personally have worked with both and find

Cable to be more reliable. You will not have a lot of down time or no down time at all, since the technology is through an on- going service wich every one has had over the years.

Cable TV and the cable HSD (high speed data) is all ways running much faster bandwidth speeds then a DSL line. I have seen it running on many occasions higher than a T1 line. On the other hand, you can do a whole lot with DSL (digital subscriber line) like running your own web server, ftp (file transfer protocol) server. You can permanently run your web page if you have a static's IP (internet protocol) address. However, you need to be technically incline to do so.

Your existing copper telephone lines are made up of different bandwidth channels. The lower bandwidth channel carries your voice communicatoin (telephone), which leaves the higher bandwidth DSL technology. There is no need for an additional phone line because DSL uses the higher bandwidth channel your telephone doesn't. Therefore, you can talk on the phone at the same time you are accessing the internet!

In order to make DSL work, your digital modem or router at your location accesses the local telephone company has installed DSLAM that translates your DSL signal. The signal is transmitted from the copper telephone line onto out network backbone, and directed to your internet ISP DSL aggregation routers. We then verify your access to our network and deliver you to the interent through our relationship with a backbone network provider.
