Networking is a cost saving for companies. As we mention network, let me place emphasis on how it can help
productivity. As you hear the word network, you should think of sharing. Yes that is exactly What it is; two or more
computers connected together with cables or hundreds of computers configured in different ways to meet company
demands. It can be local- just for office use by staff in a local office who may be located on the tenth floor of a high rise
building. The network can be so large that it is configured to communicate with users in other countries .Let us get you
familiar with networking and how it can help you improve your production.
Share programs ...
Share your programs- Suppose you have a company with 50 computers and you buy a financial program with network capability and unlimited license agreements. All you need is a file server to allow your company to use the one program. You will need to give rights to the program to computer users in the office. You might only allow some users to have rights to input information; others just to check account status and some can adjust and delete data. You can have workers assigned to different task. Your company would not have to buy 50 of the same programs. You will save some money on programs and speed up productivity .
Printer Sharing ....
If one needed to print invoices, print out the daily billing activity, prepare copies for the CEO/ CAO and keep a hard copy for customer accounts, there would be need for a good laser printer to handle the traffic- possible a copier /printer. We would need to have a printing station from which all staff would pick up their printed copies .Once again, networking is all about sharing. We would chose one of the computers, where there is suitable space for printed documents to be pick up. I would suggest that the company purchase a good copier /printer with a couple of years warranty. There should be no worry about the cost of getting it repaired or replaced for about five years .
Sharing the internet on the network..
Internet services- In many companies, employees have to keep up with the stock market, send e-mail to clients and e-mail to the CEO, Administrator, and other employees on a daily basis. Companies need some form of high speed internet capability in order to do this work. It could be a T1 orT3 line , DSL or cable. You need fast speed internet for all 50 computers. One could decide to have DSL with a static IP, in order to have a permanent IP address. My experience would lead me to get rid of the company ISP. With the one IP address we will work miracles. The company will now be abe to host their web page on the DSL IP address and share the internet with all 50 computers. All that is needed is additional configurations for it to work.
